Indie Band of The Day

Alright everyone! This has been a long time coming but I finally have decided to add one of my personal favorite bands to the site for all of you to enjoy! So here they are, "Thee Oh Sees". One of the most psychedelic, amazing and fantastic bands of all time, these guys are like the ultimate acid trip and best sex you ever had all wrapped in one. Now, here is a little bit about the band!

Thee Oh Sees is a band from San Francisco, California, USA. The group began as an outlet for John Dwyer (of Coachwhips, Pink and Brown, Yikes, The Hospitals) to release his instrumental, experimental home recordings, and over the course of several albums evolved into a full band. The band is noted for its prolific album releases, energetic live shows, and whimsical visual aesthetic that juxtaposes cartoon imagery and horror.
The band has changed its name several times, being known as Orinoka Crash Suite, OCS, Orange County Sound, and The Ohsees.

Well, there is a tiny bit about this great band but if you like what you hear, other bands you can listen to are "Jay Reatard" and "Nobunny" which are both derived from this same band, "Thee Oh Sees".  Now for some links! The first is to my personal favorite song of theirs of their newest album,
"Minotaur", the second is to their song, " Toe Cutter- Thumb Buster" off of the new album as well, and the last one is to their cover of The Creation's "If I Stay Too Long". Now, because I am such a great person, I have also added another two videos of both Jay Reatard and Nobunny! so make sure to check those out as well! The first is to Jay Reatard's song, "It ain't gonna save me" and the other one is Nobunny's song, " Blow Dumb" which is one of my personal favorites!

Well, you've all got quite a lot to check out now so get ready to hear three fantastic bands and stay tuned for the next few interviews and bands! It's gonna be WILD!!

Indie Band Of The Day

Alright Folks, you know, they say some people are destined for bad luck and to be honest, i would have to believe i am one of them! Needless to say, two black widow spider bites, a trip to the hospital and a loss of my cat to a speeding saturn are only a few of the things that have happened to me in this week alone! Well, enough about mw now, here is the terrific band of the day! these guys have truly helped me out these past days in the hospital and at home so it only seems fair that you have their music to calm your hectic and terrible days as well! Without further ado, here is a little about this terrific band, Times New Viking:

Times New Viking is a lo-fi indie rock band from Columbus, Ohio. The lineup consists of guitarist Jared Phillips, drummer Adam Elliott, and Beth Murphy on keyboards. Murphy and Elliott share vocal duties. Their name, "Times New Viking," is a play on the popular typeface Times New Roman. They have released five albums: 2005's Dig Yourself, 2007's Present the Paisley Reich, and 2008's Rip It Off, which NME gave an 8/10, and 2009's Born Again Revisited. Rip it Off reached No. 17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The band was formerly signed to Siltbreeze and Matador Records. In January 2011, they announced that their fifth album, Dancer Equired!, will be released in April via Merge in the US, Wichita in Europe, Pop Frenzy in Australia and Big Nothing in Japan.
Times New Viking have been noted for their lo-fi aesthetic, recorded to cassette, which drew comparisons to Guided by Voices' early material. This also meant they were considered part of the "shitgaze" genre, alongside contemporaries such as Psychedelic Horseshit and Eat Skull. Notable features of their songs include shouted vocals, distorted drums and loud, trebly guitars, in addition to tape hiss and brevity. Their lyrics are generally sloganistic and feature pop culture references.
With 2009's Born Again Revisited, the band recorded the album to VHS and commented the recording fidelity had increased by 25%. In 2010, the group released a 7" single available on their tours opening for Guided by Voices. The single, featuring "No Room to Live", displayed cleaner production, a result of the band utilising proper recording studios for the first time – namely Musicol Recording studio and Columbus Discount Recordings. It has been reported by Merge Records that Dancer Equired! will also feature this production style.

As you can probably already tell, these crazy guys are like a Jay Reatard, Psychedelic Horseshit and DUDES mixture with a psychotic noise explosion that questions all life in its own simplistic existence. They are one of my personal favorites ( as well as one of comedian Demetri Martin's favorite bands)  and have a special place in my heart and so, here are a few links so you can open that same place in your heart for this fantastic band! The first is to their song, " no time, no hope", the second is to their song, "No room to live", the third is to their song, " Ever Falling in Love" and the final link is to their BandPage! Hope you enjoy this terrific band and Stay Tuned for more bands up ahead!!,d.aWM

Indie Band Of The Day: Justice

Well Everybody! the weeks up until this new post have been so damn tough for the entire crew here at indie band finder! from stolen guitars to near homelessness, most of our crew have been going through quite alot and though a lead journalist and editor can do quite alot, there is only so much she can do. Therefore, these weeks we have all let you, the readers, down but never fear because today is a day of exumation and Indie Band Finder is back once again stronger than ever. All that has been promised shall be given as well as nearly fifteen new endeavors we have come across! As for today, it is my pleasure to show you this excellent band. Justice have been the band my ipod plays most of all for nearly five years and i can assure you that my love for them is just as strong as it was the day I stumbled upon their exquisite music video "DVNO" and was in awe. So without further ado, here is a bit about the band:

Justice (stylised as Jus†ice) is a French electronic music duo consisting of Gaspard Augé (born 21 May 1979 in Besançon, Doubs) and Xavier de Rosnay (born 2 July 1982 in Ozoir-la-Ferrière, Seine et Marne). The duo is one of the most successful groups on Ed Banger Records and is managed by the label's head, Pedro Winter. Justice is known for incorporating a strong rock and indie influence into their music and image.
Their debut album was released in June 2007  to critical acclaim. The album was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album and came in at number 15 on Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2007 and number 18 on Blender's "25 Best Albums of 2007" list. It was nominated for the 2007 Shortlist Prize, losing out to The Reminder by Feist. Their remix of the MGMT song "Electric Feel" won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2009.
In September 2009, it was announced that Justice would be moving to WMG/Atlantic's newly relaunched Elektra Records label. The band reportedly started working on their second album in mid-2010. The first single entitled "Civilization" was released on 28 March 2011. The band released their second album, Audio, Video, Disco, on 24 October 2011. Their newest release is due May 7th 2013, which will be a Live album titled Access All Arenas.

Well, as you read, their new album is debuting tomorrow so make sure to set your alarms because it is hot off the press and ready to blow your minds! And now, here are a few links for you guys, the first is to their incredible song, "NewJack", the second is to their song, "Genesis", the third is to their fantastic song, "DVNO", the fourth is to my personal favorite, "On' N' On'' , the fifth is to their badass song "D.A.N.C.E." and the sixth and final link is to their Facebook Page where you can stay updated with their tours, shows and music!,d.cGE

An Exclusive Interview With Ilya Lagutenko, Lead Singer Of Russia's Greatest Rock Band Mumiy Troll

Well Everyone, the interview is here at last and i can't be any happier with it's outcome either. Ilya is not only a wonderful artist, but he is a very interesting and fantastic person on top of it! having the chance to speak with him about his life, the trials and tribulations of being a russian rock band and the unique qualities that evolve around his art was one of the most liberating experiences i have ever had and so now, here is the interview that formed it all. From the band to the heart, here is our interview revealed to all you lovely followers!

1-  The band began in 1983, how did you all meet?

I started my first rock band with my neighbor, Pavel, when I was 11. It is a well documented fact in my diary. We did not have blogs or facebook..It was a little green book. My grandfather advised me to write about what I was busy doing. Now I understand why it was so important!  At least I'm comfortable with knowing the exact date of my first rock band formation even if it was a simple game like toy soldiers etc..The current line-up  has been together for the last 15 years.
2-  What did you do musically before Mumiy Troll, if anything?

I sang in boys choir since the age of 7. And we toured pretty extensively. We sang patriotic songs about values of communism to workers at Siberian factories during lunchtime. I guess to keep their mood in high spirit!  Performing kids are always very sensitive, aren't they?

3- Now Ilya, in my opinion you are one of the hottest foreign singers of alltime, would you consider yourself a ''chick magnet''?

I'm very humble about my "magnet abilities", however, there was this fantastic comedy starring John Cleese  called "A Fish Called Wanda" where he practiced Russian accents because his girlfriend thought it sounded sexy. I always thought I might use this idea somehow.

4- How is the tour going so far?

It hasn't stopped  since 1997.  Piracy was always a big issue for any Russian artist, so the only way to survive doing music was to play it live. We still do almost 100 gigs a year in Russia and beyond..It became an integral part of our lives. We  are like those posh gypsies or medieval minstrels.

5- Do you have any plans for a US tour in the future?

Of course. Follow us on our socials..we're trying to secure a couple of shows in SoCal as early as May this year to present a new single..and maybe a full tour following a new album release next winter.

6- Who are your main inspirations?

I guess just my daily life -  its ups and downs, dreams and failures, anything really..I'm not trying hard to find  how  and what to  write about. It comes naturally to me. I just need certain combinations of different factors to complete the ideas. That is always the main challenge

7- What do you think about the music of today? Do you think that the musicnowadays will be as influential to the future generations as the music fromthe past is to our generation?

I have no clue. It definitely became not such a major segment of young people's lives as it used to be. I'm not the one to complain about it. In fact making music became a much, much simpler process than 20 years ago. We could only dream about the possibilities back then.

8-  If you could meet one person in history, who would it be and why?

Elvis. When he  hit his 40s..I'd talk him into eating raw and doing yoga classes.

9- What are your dreams for the future for the band?

I'd like to explore Asian and Latin territories using Russian rock'n'roll tools..That's kinda of a dream to prove this tech could work not only for those who understand Russian.

10- What is the weirdest thing that has ever happened at a show of yours?

Mmmm..gimme second..oh we've been literally kidnapped once on our first tour back in 97..Our agent back then owed some money to  a local promoter in a remote area in southern Russia..They decided to hold our band hostage until they paid..We witnessed some action like pulling knives for real and so on..It was actually quite entertaining for us cause it looked oh so unreal.

11- Ilya, you are a patron of the British- Russia amur fund for theprotection of amur tigers and leopards and have been seen in WWF commercialsas well, why do you think that protecting these beautiful animals is so important?

Primorye (Maritime area of Pacific Russia) is a truly unique eco-system..Thats where I am from…Its just a weird combination of Siberia meets Asian subtropicals..Imagine jungle in a snow..Its really harsh to be a tiger there..blimey.. They  survived the  Ice Age and Russian Revolution.!! We can't lose them now. Just like our band!!

12- Tell me a bit about your social network

When we started it some years ago I visualized it as a platform where our fans could not only follow the band, but also interact with each other and maybe collaborate..Anyway social network is not my speciality..I'm going to redesign into a special channel covering special projects where our team is involved, like say VLADIVOSTOK rocks..Coachella vs SXSW hybrid taking place in Vladivostok and bringing together musicians from Pacific rim countries.

13- Do you feel that you have complete artistic freedom in Russia or was it ever difficult as an artist where you live?

It was different in Soviet times, but it is all history now..Now its like any other country..some issues are sensitive..but artistically  there are hardly any limits.

14- Over the years ,the band has won so many awards for your brilliance as aband. Do you think there are more awards ceremonies for the band in the future?

I don't believe in all those awards..It's simply a marketing tool, which has nothing to do with the real value of the band. It all comes down to how many people want to see you live and how many would want to sing together.

15-Was there ever a ''Yoko Ono'' in the band?

I guess my wife is  one!  Any female brings a bit of stress to boys camaraderie really, but there are more important factors and tensions to address going forward.

16- Do you have an opinion on the arrest of the band Pussy Riot?

Female prison is a very sad thing. To get busted for a performance is very sad . The truth is it's got nothing to do with music, punk rock or whatever..Its pure social activism multiplied with sensitive moral, religious and political issues. No fun huh?

17- If you could say one thing to up and coming artists what would it be?

Don't think twice if you'd like to devote yourself to making music. However you should be a strong believer in yourself. Be ready to DIY everything-write, produce, perform, manage, account, solicit etc

18- If you could say one thing to all your adoring fans, what would it be?

Just enjoy your favorite music..don't judge too hard..its our and yours together!

Well, there you have it. A deep, humorous, gifted and unique person all fronting one of the greatest bands on the planet. Who could ask for more? As a writer, it is people like this you dream to talk to and so now, it's just one more check off my bucket list folks! check out their music today and make sure to watch the video links i put below of my personal favorite songs, "hey tovarish", ''bandy'' and ''contrabandy''! Stay tuned for more interviews in the near future and i will be reporting to you all soon!! love ya!!
