indie band of the day

well hello again fellow music afficionados, here is the indie band of the day. they're called ''Billie the Vision and the Dancers'' and they are so fantastic it's crazy. i listen to their music on a daily basis now that i've discovered them and since the day i found them while searching hundreds of videos for the most unheard of bands, i have never been so proud to announce a band. so here is the band info:

Billie the Vision & the Dancers is a Swedish indie band with roots in Malmö, Blekinge, Dalarna and Argentina. The band recorded the first album I Was So Unpopular in School and Now They're Giving Me This Beautiful Bicycle in the spring of 2004. They produce their albums through the company Love will pay the Bills. Free mp3 files of all five albums are available through their website, with an appeal for donations in return. Their song, Summercat, was used in an advert for Spanish lager makers, Estrella Damm. The band were also included in the advert, performing in Menorca. The first airing of the Barcelona based beer companies advert was in Spain, 2009. It first aired in the UK in the Spring of 2012.
BtV&tD got together in Malmö, Sweden during the recordings of the first album in the spring of 2004. The singer Lars Lindquist had some songs for a solo project but one person wasn't enough, he thought. Over the months of recording he persuaded some of his friends and others to be a part of the project.

indie band of the day

okay guys, so here is the indie band of the day, they're called the antlers and this is literally my favorite band. they are the best band in the world and i love their music with all of my heart. they have both the melody and the look and when i go anywhere, i can't go without their music on my phone. its absolutely fantastic, so here ist he info about this fantastic band, hopefully you love them as much as me:

The Antlers is an indie rock band currently based in Brooklyn, New York, fronted by Peter Silberman.
Initially, The Antlers was a solo project created by vocalist and guitarist Peter Silberman immediately after he had moved to Brooklyn, New York City.Silberman wrote the first two albums, Uprooted and In the Attic of the Universe by himself. Afterwards, he recruited Michael Lerner and Darby Cicci, becoming a collaborative group.
The band recorded two EPs: Cold War and New York Hospitals. Silberman's collection of songs would later become a full-length album titled Hospice. The story behind Hospice has been debated, but Silberman has explained the record as being the story of an emotionally abusive relationship, told through the analogy of a Hospice worker and terminally-ill patient. The album was independently released by the band in March 2009, selling out of all of the quantities in stock. The band later commented that they "bit off more than they could chew." The band later signed with New York-based label Frenchkiss Records, and the label released a remastered version of Hospice on August 18, 2009. The album received critical praise for both its narrative and musicianship, and has since been listed on several "Album of the Year" lists.
In 2010, the band appeared at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, and opened for The National. Additionally, the band played the 2010 Osheaga Festival in Montreal, as well as the 2010 Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago.
Silberman has said the band's name is taken from The Microphones' song, "Antlers".
In 2011, the album Burst Apart was released May 10 through Frenchkiss in the States and May 9 through new UK / Japan / Europe label Transgressive Records. The album was met with mostly positive reviews from musical publications.
On September 6, 2011 The Antlers appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon performing the song "I Don't Want Love" from Burst Apart.
On July 24th The Antlers released a four song EP entitled "Undersea," out on ANTI- in the U.S. and Transgressive Records in the UK/Europe.

indie band of the day

okay chicos y chicas, here is the indie band of the day, they're called 'Thieves Like Us'  and they're pretty cool peeps, their music is both melodic and calming and i personally adore them, so here is the band info:
Thieves Like Us is a Swedish-American band.
The band's music is mostly electronic and is also influenced by the krautrock, italo disco, glam punk, post-punk, French touch and hip-hop genres. Thieves Like Us consider themselves a pop group.
Swedes Pontus Berghe (drums) and Björn Berglund (keyboards) met the American Andy Grier (vocals) in Berlin's Mauerpark in 2002. They started DJing together, and eventually produced their own electronic music. Since 2002, they have lived together in London, Paris, and New York. They were discovered by the French imprint Kitsuné who released their first single, "Drugs In My Body" in 2007.
2008's "Play Music", their first album released under Shelflife Records, was recorded in Berlin, London, New York City and Stockholm. Their sophomore release, "Again & Again" was released in 2010.
The band's name was most likely inspired by the New Order song Thieves Like Us, itself named after the Robert Altman film of the same name.

and now, here are the links, the first is to their song, ''drugs in my body'' and the second is their song ''headlong into night'' enjoy everybody!! :{D

inde band of the day

Poliça (often written as Polica) is an American indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota with an electronic and R&B sound. The band was founded in 2011 by Ryan Olson and Channy Leaneagh who had previously collaborated in the soft rock band Gayngs.
According to Channy Leaneagh, Polica is Polish for "policy", and she sees it as a reference to an unwritten code that guides the members when they play together, as well as its work ethic. The name appears to be a loose derivation, as there is no "ç" in Polish alphabet. There is a similar word "polisa", that literally means "insurance policy" in Polish, in particular – the contract document itself.
On the other hand Polica, without the "ç" and locally known as Police, is a mountain, 1,369 m (4,491 ft), in southern Poland near Zawoja, in the Żywiec Beskids mountain range. LOT Polish Airlines Flight 165 crashed on the northern slope of Police on 2 April 1969. The accident spot is marked by a cross, erected in the 1990s. Until 1918 Polica was on the border between Galicia and Hungary, and between 1918 and 1920 on the Polish-Czechoslovak border.
Their first album, Give You the Ghost, was released on Valentine's Day, 2012 and received praise from critics, including Grammy winner and Bon Iver founder Justin Vernon who told Rolling Stone, "They're the best band I've ever heard."Two tracks on the album feature vocals by Bon Iver's Mike Noyce. Rolling Stone's review of the album said that Leaneagh's "focused, tender voice cascades over dense fields of minor key electronics, backed by funked-up bass and a swarm of percussion. It's the sound of heartbreak and celebration happening simultaneously." Consequence of Sound's review said that "the post-prog-rock percussion and mellifluous bass, along with Channy Leanagh's Auto-Tuned swan songs, re-shape the intersection of rhythm and blues."
In March 2012, the band played at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where NPR wrote that
Polica appears on the brink of something more worldwide, thanks in part to polished and propulsive, word-of-mouth-inducing live shows like this one. Where Give You the Ghost gives the suggestion of a subdued live presence, Polica's stage show heads to somewhere approaching the opposite extreme — a welcome jolt of beauty and power.
The Huffington Post review of Poliça's SXSW performance said that "Poliça makes moody music that will stick to your bones. This band is going to be huge."
On March 29, 2012 the Poliça song "Amongster" was used on the television show Person of Interest ("Identity Crisis", Season 1, Episode 18). Another song, "Lay Your Cards Out" (featuring Mike Noyce), was used on the television show 666 Park Avenue ("Downward Spiral", Season 1, Episode 7).
On April 25, 2012 Poliça appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. On August 22 the band appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. On October 14 Poliça played at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas. On October 30 they appeared on the UK television show Later... with Jools Holland.

indie band of the day

okay guys, so yesterday i was extremely sick so i couldnt post the indie band of the day. therefore here is the band of the day for the 15th, they're called parov stelar and they either play as a band or just Marcus Füreder . so here is their info:

Marcus Füreder (born November 27, 1974), better known by his stage name Parov Stelar is a musician who lives and works in Linz, Austria. He performs with his band the Parov Stelar Band — and as a DJ worldwide. Parov Stelar is the head of Etage Noir Recordings.
After gaining experience as a DJ at nightclubs during the mid-late 1990s, Parov Stelar got involved in producing and publishing in 2000.
After early works under the pseudonym Plasma and his real name, and also being a partner of the label Bushido Recordings, in 2004 he started producing under the pseudonym Parov Stelar. In the same year he founded his own label: Etage Noir Recordings.
His first release, for Etage Noir, "KissKiss EP" and the soon after released LP "Rough Cuts", provided him immediate breakthrough on the international electronic music scene. His specific approach to music production, combined with a proven sense of sound aesthetics, led to massive reaction of audience and colleagues all around the world, giving him reputation as the founder of a new genre: "electro swing"
Parov Stelar's tracks have been used on more than 700 compilations (for example: Hôtel Costes, Buddha Bar, Electro Swing) and have been the soundtrack for numerous TV ads, TV shows, TV series and movies. In 2012, his retro-song "Booty Swing" was featured in the US television advertising campaign entitled "Just the Right Amount of Wrong" for the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas resort and casino. Also in 2012, an excerpt from his song "Chambermaid Swing" was used in a well-known Bacardi commercial.

The Parov Stelar Band

After starting as a solo artist and gaining initial success, in 2005 Parov Stelar began to perform live sets with a full band. This collaboration with four (later five) musicians noticeably influenced his work.

indie band of the day

okay, so here is the indie band of the day. i found them about three months back and after seeing only one of their videos i knew i was absolutely in love. they're called the shoes and recently, i noticed a song by them online which included none other than Jake Gyllenhaal, that's right donnie darko folks. ofcourse i had to watch it and after doing so i realized i was absolutely in love with both the video as well as the band. so without further ado, here is the band info guys, it's basically an interview due to the fact that they are french and do not have any information in english haha:
You’re playing at Hyéres this year and you also played last year. What does the association mean to you? Is it important to associate yourselves with the fashion world?

We love the fashion world and the human size of the festival. The mood is just so great. We really enjoyed being there last year so we are more than happy to come back play at la Villa Noailles.

You’ve had quite a journey so far and you have collaborated with some of the more edgier and interesting names in music. How has all of that influenced how you approach your music?

It’s always really creative and interesting : we learn a lot about ourselves, and we have the chance to produce only for artist we like. Benjamin and i are not good for the same things, so depending on the project, it’s more him, more me or more us. Anyway, it’s always surprising. Concerning remixes, it’s different. We learned that we are more talented remixing a track we don’t especially love, because it’s challenging, it means creating something we love from something we don’t like. It’s exciting.

Nowadays the internet, social media, youtube etc play a big part and are often used as the main tools to build a brand/band and get musicians out there, has this been a reality for you? How has it impacted your come-up?

It’s been a reality for The Shoes, yes. Well, we are from the myspace generation : we were in several bands, we did a lot of different stuff, and one day we wanted to do something different, so we created a fake band account on myspace, with the first fake band name that came in mind and put some new tracks on. 3 months later, we were signed on Green United Music. It was in 2008. Now it’s 2012, we are about to play the Olympia in 2 months, which is the most famous venue in Paris, and it’s gonna be quite ironic and funny to see our band name in huge red neon letters as we still have this first fake band name that came in mind...

You’ve also done a lot of production for other artists, is this something you are going to continue with or are you focusing mainly on your own work going forward?

Both ! We are always producing for other bands at the same time, it’s more healthy because if we were only working together all the time on our stuff, i think we’d kill each other !

How did your collaboration with Jake Gyllenhaal come about?

Daniel Wolfe directed the video for Stay The Same, and we loved it. We wanted to work with him again, and he really likes our music. So we talked about doing a new video for Time to Dance, and he was really into it. Daniel is working a lot with actors, in Stay the Same it was with Johnny Harris (This is england), this time it was with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Would it be fair to see it as symbolic of a full-on cross-over to mainstream fame?

No, we don’t think so. We’ve never been more indie ! It’s about a famous British director doing a video for an indie French band with a mainstream A-listed American actor, and about this same actor who likes our music, playing a psychopath serial hipster killer in our video, because it’s far away from roles he usually plays.

And how has his presence in your video affected your popularity as a band?

Everybody was talking about it, about him and then about us. But we won’t play at le Stade De France like David Guetta because of that.

A lot of bands that are viewed as underground in the early stages of their careers often adjust their sound as they get popular, has your sound changed as you’ve grown? if it has, how has it changed? If not, then how do you stay true to it?

In the beginning our music was more electronical, but also because we just threw out few tracks one day on myspace, and producing electro music at this time was a good way to become famous and produce for others. We have always been a pop rock band. So as we get popular, we also get closer to what we are really : a pop-rock band. We are just becoming what we trully are.

The imagery used in some of your videos is pretty dark, and all the way to gruesomely violent in your video for Time to Dance, what’s the deal? What is the narrative behind the Time to Dance video?

Ha ! This is Daniel Wolfe style ! We let him free to decide about his imagery because it’s his job. We won’t give him advice because we don’t ask for his opinion on our music productions.
We adore what he did the two times we worked together.

There’s an opulent and somewhat camp disco sound that comes across in your music, amongst other influences, and it has also been described as dark electro pop. Are these intentional influences? If they are, where do these influences come from for you? If not, what are your influences?

We have this common interest for pop music since forever, and separately we can say we are influenced by almost everything musical. Benjamin in more into French music, French rock, some folk music. I like hip hop, rap and electro music. We were in many bands, we had that drum& bass band when we were young, we then had a French rock band, we did some electro music too, we produced instrumental and classical music for Woodkid recently. So many things.

What is on your playlists currently?

You’re gonna laugh but i have a lot of my music label’s artists in my iPod, because some are friends too. Anyway the music is always good : Woodkid, Part Company, Rocky...

How important is image to you?

As important as music. Nowdays a great single has to come up with a great video.

What is the next step for The Shoes?

Holidays ! And maybe a new ep, or album, and many new collaborations

alright guys, now here are the links, the first is to their song with Jake called ''time to dance'' and the second is to their song ''   '' , check them out and hopefully you like them, as much as i do, bye for now guys! :{D

indie band of the day

okay guys, so here is the indie band of the day, i found these guys about a year ago and they are super duper cool. they're called ''Dr.Dog'' and they are like an amazing mixture of indie rock and folk, so here is their info:

Dr. Dog is an indie rock band from West Grove, Pennsylvania. Its lineup consists of Toby Leaman (bass guitar), Scott McMicken (lead guitar), Frank McElroy (rhythm guitar), Zach Miller (keyboard), and Eric Slick (drums). Lead vocal duties are shared between Leaman and McMicken, with all members contributing harmonies. In addition, each band member has a nickname, and they have explained that friends of the band also receive nicknames, which are drawn from aspects of their lives and personalities (Former member Andrew "Trial" Jones, for example, is a licensed attorney).
The band's unique version of indie rock is strongly influenced by bands of the 1960s. Their earlier recordings show influence of the lo-fi sound and pop sensibilities of indie rock bands of the 1990s, such as Guided By Voices and Pavement. Recent albums have featured more polished production.

okay so that's the band info, now here are the links. the first one is to their song '' that old black hole '' and the second one is to their song ''shadow people ''
