indie band of the day

okay, so here is the indie band of the day, they're called ''The Akron Family'' and they're also a band that you can see on the movie ''world's greatest dad'' as well. so here is their info:

Akron/Family is a folk-influenced experimental indie rock band that formed in 2002, and its members currently live in Portland, Oregon , Tucson, Arizona and New York City, New York.

Though each member of the band—Dana Janssen, Seth Olinsky, and Miles Seaton—can be relegated to loosely defined roles (vocalist/drummer, vocalist/guitarist, and vocalist/bassist, respectively), all members play several instruments and sing, as evidenced by their shows and recorded material: Live, the band uses improvisation and three-part harmonies in prominence. On their self-titled debut record, field recordings of a creaking chair, thunderclaps and the white noise of a television find their way alongside psychedelic and electronic elements, guitars and a glockenspiel.
Between 2003 and 2007 the band was the hub of a social scene in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which revolved around the 'Gimmie Coffee' coffee shop. Many of the events of this period served as material for songs.
In 2003, the band began sending demos to Young God Records label head Michael Gira, who announced the following year their signing to the label. Akron/Family, culled from several albums' worth of material recorded in the band's Brooklyn apartment, was released in March 2005. The Wire said, "Akron/Family's hushed left field pastoralism invite comparison with the loose US scene of folk-derived weirdness ... Immaculately interwoven electronics and the care with which each beautifully recorded track unfolds recall Chicago post-rock ..." (Davies 2005).
Released that same month was Angels of Light's Sing "Other People", on which Akron/Family served as the main backing band. Several extensive tours of the United States and Europe with Gira — playing as Angels of Light — followed immediately afterward, lasting much of the rest of the year. In the stretches supporting Gira, the band played dual roles as both the supporting and headlining act; in the stretches without Gira, their touring mates included Great Lake Swimmers and Sir Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls.
The next Akron/Family material released was Akron/Family & Angels of Light, a split album with Angels of Light in October 2005. Shortly after releasing Meek Warrior in October 2006, the band debuted seven demo songs on WNYC radio, suggesting another album was already in the works. The band has contributed vocals to Canadian post-rock band Do Make Say Think's album, You, You're a History in Rust and the more recent, Other Truths.
In September 2007, it was announced that original member Ryan Vanderhoof departed the group "amicably sometime between the completion of (2007 release) Love Is Simple and the start of the band's U.S. tour" according to Akron/Family's publicist. The reasoning behind his departure was that "he went to live in a Buddhist Dharma center (Tsogyelgar/Flaming Jewel) in the Midwest." The Akron/Family tour in September 2007 included supporting acts Megafaun and Greg Davis who joined the Akron/Family onstage to create a seven-piece band. Megafaun and Greg Davis also played in Akron/Family band for their October 2007 west coast tour. The Dodos played the opening sets on this tour. In the spring of 2008 the band toured with Megafaun as their supporting act. In addition to opening, all three members of Megafaun joined Akron/Family onstage to create a six-piece band. Akron/Family are primarily performing as a three-piece band now.
On October 5, 2008, the News section of Akron/Family's official website was updated to announce that the band had begun recording a new album. The album, entitled Set 'Em Wild, Set Em Free was released on May 5, 2009 by Dead Oceans Records. Crammed Discs will be putting it out in Europe on the same date. On February 15, 2009 Set 'Em Wild, Set Em Free leaked onto the internet. Throughout the late summer and into the fall of 2009, Akron/Family headlined a tour with Slaraffenland as the opening band and Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard serving as lead support. Slaraffenland also contributed in much of Akron/Family's set, playing percussion and horns.

okay, so here are the links now, the first is to their song ''don't be afraid, you're alrerady dead'' which happens to be my personal favorite and the second one is their song ''so it goes''

indie band of the day

okay, so here is the indie band of the day, they're called Grizzly Bear and they are phenomenol, the best part about them is that my art teacher plays them quite alot when we do our art work, so i get to listen to them with all my friends and i don't have to force it down their throats hahaha just kidding, anyways, here is their band info:

Grizzly Bear is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002.The band consists of Edward Droste (vocals, keyboards, omnichord), Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) and Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals).
The band employs traditional and electronic instruments. Their sound has been categorized as psychedelic pop, folk rock, and experimental, and is dominated by the use of vocal harmonies. The band is one of the few non-electronic artists signed to Warp Records.

Grizzly Bear began as a moniker for songwriter Ed Droste's music in the early 2000s. Regarding the band's origins as a solo project, Droste noted, "It was just like doing a little home project, and I thought "oh, this is fun, I'm just going to call this stuff Grizzly Bear. [...] Our name was actually just a nickname for an old boyfriend of mine."
In 2004, Droste released Grizzly Bear's debut album, Horn of Plenty. Predominately a solo album the album featured contributions from future drummer Christopher Bear. Rolling Stone magazine wrote of the first album that "The pure atmospheric power of the songs is more than enough to hypnotize."
Droste and Bear were subsequently joined by bass guitarist and producer Chris Taylor, and performed four shows together as a three-piece. Regarding these shows, Droste noted, "We've never played without the four of us, really. The first couple shows we did before we knew Dan [Rossen], we did with three of us and they kind of sucked. From the get-go, when we were trying to put together a live show, that's when we discovered our sound and that's why I think that was the beginning of the band."
Guitarist and vocalist Daniel Rossen, a friend of Bear's from jazz-camp, joined the band soon after, with Rossen stating, "For a long time, I only played my songs to close friends; and it just happened that I lived with Chris Taylor during my second year of college, so he heard them. He was my entrance into Grizzly Bear. He joined the band first, then after a while he suggested I come in with these songs. [...] When I joined, I did about two rehearsals with them, worked out one of my songs to put into the set, then a week later we were out on the road for a two-month tour. It was a real trial-by-fire thing. I was close with Chris and Chris [Bear], but I didn’t know Ed [Droste] at all; it was weird getting to know a stranger by spending all day in the same car."
Regarding the decision to turn Grizzly Bear into a full band, Droste noted "I was quite happy to relinquish the idea of being a solo artist. I hate the thought of being under a spotlight with my guitar, mumbling into a microphone. It’s horribly scary to me''.

and now here are the links to this band, the first is to their song ''eavesdropping'' which is my personal favorite and the second is to their song ''ready, able''

indie band of the day

okay, so here is the band of the day, it's really just a badass french guy named Yoann Lemoine but it's his alias that i am interested in, he calls himself woodkid and his music seriously rocks, now here is the guy's info:

Yoann Lemoine (born 16 May 1983) is a French music video director, graphic designer, and musician. Lemoine is also an alternative indie musician, going by the stage name Woodkid. On March 28, 2011, Woodkid released his first EP Iron EP.
Woodkid released the Iron EP on March 28, 2011. For the music video for the single "Iron", he collaborated with English model Agyness Deyn. The song was featured in trailers for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the film Hitchcock.
On October 15 2011 he sang on stage with Lana Del Rey in New York City and created the video for her song "Born To Die".
The French couture brand Dior Homme's Fall-Winter 2013 collection "A Soldier On My Own" is inspired by Woodkid's "Iron", and is named after the lyrics of the song. The song is used as soundtrack of the show.

and now here are the links, the first one is to his song ''run boy run'' which is the first song i ever heard from him, the second is to his song ''brooklyn'', another one of my personal favorites and the third is to the song ''iron'' which is sort of a prequel to the ''run boy run'' video.

indie band of the day

okay, so here is the indie band of the day, they're called ssion and they seriously are badass, they have the attitude, the style, the talent and the stage presence and they are as good as it gets when it comes to indie music, so here is the band info:

The Ssion, also known as SSION, (pronounced "shun") is a musical group formed in 1996, in Kansas City, by vocalist Cody Critcheloe. Known for their extravagant live show, Ssion was signed to Sleazetone Records in 2008.
In 2003 Ssion made their label debut in 2003, releasing the EP “Minor Treat” and the album “Opportunity Bless My Soul” on Version City Records. In 2007 the group released their album “Fools Gold” accompanied with “Clown”, a remix EP. It was then followed by a full-length feature film, titled BOY made up of music videos strung together to produce the gay, punk rock equivalent of Forrest Gump.
As an BFA student at the Kansas City Art Institute, Ssion leader Cody Critcheloe produced an animated short called The Lemon Cookie Revolution. Effectively, and often hilariously, blurring the two most popular definitions of “cult” beyond recognition, Critcheloe imagined himself poisoning his heroes with delicious snacks of the film’s title, thereby assuming a place among them in the cred-fed indie pantheon. It’s a crude and campy stop-motion animation piece with a soundtrack boasting Wire and the Pet Shop Boys, and it allows Critcheloe to indulge his two fascinations: ironically chiding subcultural “outsiders”, and indulging in over-the-top wish-fulfillment fantasies. In his narrated introduction to the film, he introduces its two themes thusly: “Underground music cult figures you’ve probably never heard of, nor do you even care about. My second favorite thing in the whole wide world is, without a doubt, revolution.”

If “Fear Us”, from Fool’s Gold, Ssion’s second album, is any indication, Critcheloe is now a member in good standing. The song documents (as “we”) a caricatured, nihilistic hipster netherworld— mirrored in the album’s butched-out cover image— as a cartoonish, unambiguously bold amalgam of gay subcultural stereotypes, which Critcheloe both calls attention to and celebrates

indie band of the day

okay guys, so here is the indie band of the day, they're called Wild Kingdom and they are really awesome, the funny part about this band is that i just met these guys yesterday, the singer/ guitarist Austin hit me up and let me know about his band on youtube and thank god he did because they are just the kind of band i'm looking for, they have talent, swagger, energy and ofcourse they are young which means they have plenty more years of being amazing on their belts, now when we talked Austin gave me the info about his band and so here it is:

Wild Kingdom is a indie/alternative rock band founded by Austin X. Myles at age 17. We are from a small place called Tyler, Texas. I started the band with closed friend and coworker, Rodrigo Gomez(also 17 at the time) who didn't play any instruments at the time but i showed him how to play a few things on bass and he picked up the rest on his own. We looked to our mutual friend Aaron Dacus(18) for drums and started practicing at my house every Sunday in about April of 2012. At first we were a little confused on who would do the singing because we had all been in bands before and that was one of the scary things that no one ever stepped up to do. I didn't really think i had the voice for it but i practiced on my vocals and became the singer. In an attempt to try to get more buzz before we ever played shows I recorded music in my room and uploaded the songs to Soundcloud. The feedback we got from Soundcloud made us practice harder until we finally booked our first show in July and followed that with another. From there we booked shows around east Texas on the regular, and ended up getting a front cover spot on a local magazine called Pulse Tyler. We didnt hit our real first bump in the road until early November of 2012 when we made the mutual decision for our drummer to leave the band. Since then we have just been working on newer material. I just filled in on the drum parts for the recordings now. Just recently in December we did find a replacement drummer and added a second guitarist. We are very eager to get back gigging again and have plans to start recording an album probably over the Summer and have a music video to go with it.

and that is exactly how he wrote it, it sounds like he could take my job haha, now here are the band links, check them out i swear, you won't be disappointed

indie band of the day

okay so here is the indie band of the day, i adore these guys with a passion, their songs and their vocals are absolutely fantastic so i hope you like them, they're called twisted wheel, and they rock, now here's their info:

Twisted Wheel are an indie rock band from Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, England.
Twisted Wheel formed in February 2007 in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester by guitarist and singer Jonny Brown and bassist Rick Lees, later joined by drummer Adam Clarke. Frontman Jonny Brown heard the name in a Paul Weller track "Into Tomorrow", where the lyrics say "Round and round like a twisted wheel, Spinning in attempt to find the feel" and thought it suited the music. Twisted Wheel were booked as one of the support acts for Oasis's 2009 Heaton Park concerts. Embraced for their strong melodies, psychedelic themes and Brown's irreverent poignant lyrics, the band gained a following amongst old mods/punks and younger heads looking for music which represented their generation. They were labelled as punk rock although influences span folk and 50s/60s bands too. Twisted Wheel cite Davy Graham, Bob Dylan, The Stooges The Small Faces, The Who, The Jam, The Rolling Stones and Oasis among their main influences.
The band signed to Columbia Records in January 2008. Their first single, "She's A Weapon", was released in April 2008 to high acclaim by Radio 1's Zane Lowe, NME and Q. Their follow-up record, a four-track EP entitled You Stole The Sun, was released in July 2008. The band's debut album Twisted Wheel, produced in Los Angeles by Dave Sardy (producer of Oasis' 'Dig Out Your Soul' and Don't Believe The Truth) was recorded in June 2008 and released on 13 April 2009. The first single from the album, "Lucy The Castle", was released in November 2008, with the follow-up, "We Are Us", released in March 2009.
The album received mixed reviews, but has gained them a following throughout the UK, at a headline gig at Manchester's Academy 1 in particular. On 10 April 2010, Twisted Wheel announced that the unreleased song Tell The World was to become available as a free download to all of the fans on their mailing list, as a thank you for the support they have received on their tour.
The band have spent the last three years on the road building an audience without major radio play.Despite no immediate follow-up to the album, the fan base has continued to grow.Twisted Wheel have supported heavyweight rock bands like Kasabian, The View, The Enemy and were the main support acts of Oasis in the homecoming tour of 2009. They have supported Paul Weller on tours and played at Reading, Leeds, T in the Park, Glastonbury and other large UK festivals. The band have toured Japan, as support with Jet as well as on headline shows. They were voted PRS second most gigged band in 2009.

New material

Eoghan Clifford is now on drums and Stephen Evans plays bass and provides backing vocals. The band have been creating "more hardcore rock n roll punk melodies". A sold-out short UK tour was made from 30 September until late December 2010, featuring the new line-up in full for the first time and introducing several of the new songs ('Better Man', "New Boy', the already favourite 'UK Blues', 'iPod Generation', 'Poppy Love' and 'Do It Again') from the forthcoming album. The album, entitled Do It Again, was released in September 2012.

Musical style

Their sound has been described as old school gritty rock 'n' roll reminiscent of the early Jam. The band have been noted as "a breath of fresh air" by Liam Gallagher. They also have a fan in Paul Weller, who came to watch them at London's 100 Club and invited the band on his summer forest tour in 2009. He has also offered the use of his studios for any recordings. They have commercially-used covers of The Jam's 'That's Entertainment' and The Zombies 'She's Not there'. Their music ranges from the ballads of real characters and situations ('Strife', 'Bouncing Bomb') to punk anthems like 'Oh What Have You Done'.
The band describe themselves as a mixture of 70s punk (Sex Pistols, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers) and 60s rock and roll (Rolling Stones, Kinks, The Who) with a pinch of Oasis thrown in. Other influences of the band include The Jam, The Stooges, Small Faces, The Smiths, The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses.

Stephen Evans: bass
