special surprise for new years

okay so this is not something i will do very often, but on special occasions, i will post personal friend's bands as second bands of the day, this is so that you can check out true independent bands as well as see the potential of bands you wouldn't normally find, so for this special occasion, i am posting my family's good friend Dave's band, they aren't a soft and sweet band like most of the bands you will see on this site, these guys are tough as hell and they bring the badass in badass music, not only do they rock your mind with their melodic deep guitar riffs but the vocals blow you away, whether it is their albums or their live shows, these guys are sure to rock your socks off, they're called Yidhra, and they are amazing, so here is their info :

Yidhra's 4 track promo ep is out and at only $5 it is a essential pick up for you doomsters who love traditional doom played with a sense of freshness. Even though they are playing a very traditional style of doom, the combination of a vocalist that doesn't really sound like anyone else and a rich full guitar sound with catchy riffs makes this ep irresistible. The CD opens with "The Lament Of Long...inus" which some of you might have heard on the new Doom Metal Alliance sampler that is making the rounds at the moment. This song is in the vein of Saint Vitus at their very best, a slow intro section starts off the track in a haunting fashion before launching a huge riff. The guitar is thick but has a clean biting sound with the just right amount of fuzz. The track has a repetitive riff but at the halfway point in changes down a gear to a even slower tempo with some demented soloing that is twisted and eerie at the same time. The track then returns to the main riff to finish out the track. "Witch Queen" is up next, a Sabbath inspired doom riff kicks the track into pure doom and gloom atmosphere but the track really gets into gear when a the mid tempo section comes in. A stomping, head snapping power-metal riff to be sure but it shifts back and forth from that to total doom. The solo at around the 5 minute mark wails before they take it back to doomsville with that killer opening riff to round of a great track. "Ancient Ones" is more Saint Vitus style doom with a creeping riff line and spoken word type of singing before he returns to his bellowing vocals during the chorus. I really dig this dude's voice and like i mentioned before he somehow manages to sound original even though is vocal technique is a much used one. The guitar crunch is really on display on this track especially at 4 minutes into the song where there is a extra heavy emphasis on the guitar sound. Like all the tracks on here, production is real good and polished. Maybe the catchiest song on here is the last track "Conquest For Nova", the opening riff is instantly infectious and the rest of the song just grooves. Special mention must go again to the production and mix of this baby, everything is clear and powerful and even the drum sound pounds. A lot of drums tend to get buried in the mix of promo CD's but on here, they are right where they should be in the mix. The solo on "Conquest For Nova" is one of the highlights of the album, full of soaring melody and feeling. If they can get a sound like this on a promo EP, then a full length album should be on everyone's wanted list. I have heard dozens of promos this year and there has been some good ones and some shockers but this is the best promo released this year.

and now, here are the links, the first being their live video at a club called the joint playing one of their amazing songs and the second is to their reverbnation account, and the third is their facebook page, check them out, they rock

indie band of the day

okay, so the indie band of the day is really just a dude, but don't let that fool you, this guy is one of my personal heroes, he is not only awesome but he is a very nice guy, i know this from interviewing him for my school newspaper, he is a really great musician and a really great person, so here is the info:
Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer (real name Jim Burke) is a parodist who performs "chap hop" — hip-hop delivered in a Received Pronunciation accent. Mr. B raps, or "rhymes", about high society, pipe smoking and cricket while playing the banjolele. The character is described as having grown up in Cheam and attending Sutton Grammar School for Boys.

Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer is an alter ego of Jim Burke, a rapper with the Britpop group Collapsed Lung. Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer started performing in late 2007, playing at cabaret clubs, and venues across the UK including the Glastonbury Festival and club NME in Paris, and performed as part of the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has performed on radio including the Steve Lamacq show and "Introducing with Tom Robinson" for the BBC. He has also been named as a 'Band of the Month' on the Kooba Radio podcast.
His debut album "Flattery Not Included" was released in 2008 for the Grot Music label, which includes the track "Chap-Hop History" which is a Received Pronunciation reworking of some well known hip-hop classics. Its accompanying video has received numerous views on YouTube. Another track from the album, "Timothy", is about the unique vocal style of BBC Radio's Tim Westwood. Perhaps his best known track, "Straight Out Of Surrey", is a parody of N.W.A's "Straight Outta Compton" and purports to be "the extent of [his] cricket knowledge."
Mr B. has appeared as a guest on the Zero Day album by MC Frontalot, playing the banjolele and providing additional vocals on the track "Better At Rapping".
He is currently in a feud with "chap-hop" artist Professor Elemental. However, Professor Elemental had a short appearance in Mr. B's music video for the song "Like a Chap", of which Professor Elemental said "Much as I hate to admit it, I bloody love that video and am jolly glad [Mr. B] let me gate crash."

and now, here are the music videos, one is his video for acid edward and the other is called hermitage shanks, they both are amazing songs, so i hope you enjoy! :{D

THE LIST OF ALL LISTS

the many forms of indie band girl

so here is indie band girl in her many forms, i just thought u might want to see a little bit more of me, i mean as you follow along, i want you to feel like we are just good friends looking through a playlist together, so here are some pics of me in my natural habitat hahaha

indie band of the day

okay so here is the band of the day, they are called Miike Snow and if you're wondering what the jackrabbit is all about ,that's their logo, i found these guys about two months back when i was band surfing and i'm so glad i did, so here is their info:
Miike Snow was formed in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden. Band members Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg were childhood friends who spent time playing in bands and working on various projects in studios throughout the city of Gothenburg. Karlsson used to be a member of Swedish hip-hop band Goldmine, who toured with The Fugees. After separate moves to Stockholm, they reunited in 2000. In 2004, whilst working on writing a pop album for Britney Spears, the duo met the third band member, American songwriter Andrew Wyatt.
Karlsson and Winnberg collaborated under the moniker Bloodshy & Avant, and enjoyed a significant amount of success as producers and songwriters. They have worked with artists such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Kelis, Sky Ferreira, and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Spears's track "Toxic".
The name "Miike Snow" is said to have come from one of their friends named Mike Snow, with the spelling of "Miike" coming from the Japanese film director Takashi Miike. The band members are known to enjoy frequent crabbing trips together, although Karlsson has said publicly that he has a phobia of open water and boats.
Miike Snow is Miike Snow's eponymous debut album. It was recorded in Stockholm and released in the United States on 9 June 2009 by Downtown Records. A single for the track "Animal" was released on 17 February 2009. Upon a UK release of the song later in the same year, the track reached number 98 on the UK Singles Chart. It is used as the theme music for the British Channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner. The second single was "Black & Blue". Both singles have made the BBC Radio 1 Playlist B-List.
The Guardian spoke highly of the band, saying Miike Snow's "coolly emotional pop suggests a-ha meets Animal Collective." In an interview for ClashMusic.com, Wyatt revealed their unexpected popularity, saying, "I don't think our project was that thought out when we started. We just wanted to make music together. Three people just messing about. I don't think we anticipated the level of attention that it's getting right now. We didn't even think about touring when we started the album."
Miike Snow have remixed tracks for Depeche Mode, Passion Pit, Peter Bjorn and John, Kings of Leon, I Blame Coco and Vampire Weekend. Their music has been remixed by Mark Ronson, Crookers, Peter Bjorn and John, Treasure Fingers, Tiga, Caspa, Style of Eye, Emalkay, Fake Blood, Benny Blanco, Savage Skulls, Netsky, Hood Internet and DJ Mehdi, amongst others. A remix of the song "Silvia" by DJ's Sebastian Ingrosso and Dirty South was released on 2 April 2010.
Their song "In Search Of" was originally a collaboration with Crookers for the song "Remedy". The band liked the end result so much that they decided to create their own version for their album.
In 2011 they won an European Border Breakers Award for their international success.[ Every year the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA) recognize the success of ten emerging artists or groups who reached audiences outside their own countries with their first internationally released album in the past year.
In 2012 the band toured the United States.

a little bit about indie band girl

okay so it is officially day three, and i figure you guys probably want to know who this crazy chick is who runs this blog, so here is some things about me: when i was eight years old i was in a punk band called temper tantrum, we became super popular and i was lead singer, but i knew it wasn't for me, i wasn't angry, i was depressed, i needed softer music, so i got an acoustic guitar and searched for where i belonged, i tried blues, i tried folk, i even tried ska but nothing quite fit until seventh grade when my friends told me about this band called the killers, i had never heard anything like it and from that day on, i knew what i was to be, an alternative musician and an indie musician, but it didn't end there, i met some good friends along the way who introduced me to bands i had never heard of before in my life and as the years dragged on i found myself wearing big thick rimmed glasses, cuffed up jeans and bands on my tshirts and feathers in my hair, i went to outdoor festivals and i lived on youtube and underground radio stations and websites and now i have compiled a list of all the bands i have found over these past years, so that is what this website is, it's a compilation of life, it's a compilation of a little punk who grew into an outgoing and quirky artist, musician, poet, writer and music fanatic, so i hope you like what i post, i hope u follow me and comment on my things, because life should be shared, and i'm sharing mine with you, so now it's your turn to share yours with me!:{D adios for now!

indie band of the day

okay so here is the indie band of the day,t hey are super cool and unique and i happen to love their stuff, they do some really great songs and they have such a hard and soft sound at the same time, its like contradicting awesomeness haha so here's their info:
Funeral Suits are a four-piece from Ireland consisting of Brian James, Mik McKeogh, Greg McCarthy and Dar Grant. The music they make is expansive without being overblown, heavy without being menacing and all the more thrilling for its restraint. Funeral Suits debut UK single ‘Colour Fade’ was released on May 29 through Friends vs Records.

A shared love of epic, distorted guitars, blistering harmonius pop, art rock and electronica led to the band spending the best part of two years holed up in a disused office space in deepest North County Dublin, writing, rehearsing and at times venturing out to play as special guests for Franz Ferdinand, Passion Pit, The Maccabees, Local Natives amongst others.

Funeral Suits have recorded and finished their debut album with acclaimed producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) which is due to be released Spring 2012.

Funeral Suits first single ‘Colour Fade’ has already enjoyed support from BBC Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens. ‘Colour Fade’ is a song reflective of the trio’s hedonistic adolescence and burning passion to escape Dublin whilst hinting at big things to come from their full length.

and we can't forget the youtube link either, so here is the link to their awesome song 'all those friendly people'

indie band of the day

okay so here is the indie band of the 27th, their name is Reptar, i first found them while travelling on the internet and for quite some time i thought these guys were australian, but i was wrong hahahahso  here is their real info:

Reptar is an American band from Athens, Georgia consisting of members Graham Ulicny (guitar, vocals), Ryan Engelberger (bass), William Kennedy (keys) and Andrew McFarland (drums).
They released their debut album Body Faucet through Vagrant Records on May 1, 2012 , and reached #7 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Their name is taken from the Rugrats character Reptar, which singer/guitarist Graham Ulicny explained "I first tried to name the band Invisible Boyfriend, and everybody goes, 'that is the stupidest name I have ever heard in my life." So why Reptar? "It is the second stupidest band name we have ever heard."

Indie Band of The Day

okay so here is the first indie band of the day, i personally love these guys with a passion, now here is the info about them:
Los Angeles rockers White Arrows are open-minded dudes: Like Fool's Gold or Vampire Weekend, the band has a sound that's equal parts indie edge and global groove. The band's gotten hometown love from L.A. Weekly and KCRW. The influential L.A. radio station praised the band for their live performance -- a skill White Arrows had a chance to master with a monthlong residency at an Echo Park club in 2011, an L.A. indie rite of passage. With their chops honed, the group headed to Europe this spring to rock festivals like Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape. They've even gotten the attention of Justin Timberlake (!!!) who said of their "Get Gone" video, "Cool video. Song reminds me of Phil Collins: 'Take Me Home.'" High praise, indeed.

In addition to possibly bringing sexy back, White Arrows are making the most of the world's current fruit situation: "[Guitarist JP Caballero] listened to an NPR special about bananas, and how in 20 years or something there will be far less bananas," frontman Mickey Church explains. "He would start eating 20 to 40 bananas a day." Potassium: crucial! Beyond the vitamins though, the band also made sure their musical chemistry was cool with the universe before recording their debut album, Dry Land is Not a Myth, which dropped last Tuesday. "We went to an astrologer and made sure our signs were OK," JP says. The stars are definitely aligning for White Arrows.

and of course, the youtube links are below, one is a live version of their fantastic song coming or going while the other is a video of their awesome song get gone.
